Letters From Georgia - In aid of Georgians peacefully protesting against the repressive regime, and all proceeds will go to გილდია • Guild standing with Georgia's Theatre Workers, and Grassroots Independent Media Mautskebeli For the start of the evening, Georgian actors here on UK Global Talent visas, have prepared a rehearsed reading. Letters From Georgia, written by Natalia Jugheli, incorporates documentary footage, and covers the thoughts and feelings of Georgian immigrants and through their prospective tells the stories from the past and present of oppressed people from Georgia. The Global Talent actor performers are Joseph Khvedelidze, Mariam Khundadze, Natalia Jugheli, Bichiko Cheishvili and Nini Ugulava, Following the performance Georgian wine and food will be available with support from Kartuli Georgian Restaurant and Taste of Georgia. There will be an auction and the evening will end with songs from Anman, a Tbilisi-born, London-raised musician, multimedia artist and performer.
For over three months, Georgians have been protesting in the streets of Tbilisi and other major Georgian cities, demanding democracy and human rights. Protests erupted across Georgia after Georgian Dream (the ruling party), announced its decision to halt the country's European integration efforts. The pro-Russian government passed laws to suppress free expression in Georgia, placing the cultural sector under immense pressure, as the government attempts to silence artistic expression and free speech, unjustly imprisoning activists, journalists and artists who fight for European values.
